SOME or ANY | simple rules

This is a simple table that shows you when to use Some or Any, as this can be very confusing.

Some is usually used:

In positive sentences	I have some friends I saw some people outside yesterday
In questions about things you know exist	Would you like some sugar with your coffee?
Making requests	Can I borrow some money? Can have some bread?
With countable nouns	There are some Greek restaurants in town Some people have a dog
With unaccountable nouns	There was some frost here last week Help yourself to some cheese Let’s get rid of some junk

Any is often used:

In negatives sentences

I didn’t see any people outside yesterday

We don’t have any sugar left

He doesn’t have any friends

With Questions

Do you have any money?

Do you have any milk left?
